AFDX

Application information distilled from http://www.techsat.com/page.php?id=111.

AFDX (Avionics Full Duplex Switched Ethernet) is an advanced protocol standard to interconnect avionics subsystems. Its first major use will be in the Airbus A380. The standard is based on widely approved and adopted standards like Ethernet (IEEE 802.3) and IP/UDP (Internet Protocols). Modifications to these standards have been made to cope with the need for deterministic response times and limited jitter.

There seem to be two variants in this product line:

The AFDX-PM-2CTR is the high-end successor board of Tech S.A.T?s PMC694/AFDX interface, which was the first product on the market supporting this new avionics bus. It is designed for applications like end system simulation, test systems and prototyping of avionics components. The module provides the hardware resources to implement a high performance dual redundant AFDX interface.

  • Ethernet ? 2 x 10/100 MBit Full Duplex Ethernet interfaces built with standard IEEE 802.3 conforming PHY devices
  • CPU ? Motorola MPC 8245 embedded controller with 300 MHz PPC 603e CPU, I20 engine, Enhanced Programmable Interrupt Controller (EPIC), PCI interface
  • Memory ? 64 MB RAM, 8 MB Flash
