45 The processor chip used on MBX series boards is either an MPC860
    46 PowerQUICC® ( PowerPC® Quad Integrated Communications
47 Controller) microprocessor or an MPC821 Portable Systems
48 microprocessor. The processor is surface-mounted to the MBX board. The
    49 MPC8xx is a single-chip microprocessor/peripheral combination that lends
50 itself to a variety of controller applications. It incorporates many of the
    51 communications/networking capabilities and peripheral I/O functions
52 offered by the overall MBX product.
47MBX821 models include 40 MHz MPC821 processor. The MPC821 processor is especially well-suited for applications where
48lower power is essential, such as portable and/or high-performance
49communications systems. The CPU on the MPC821 is a 32-bit PowerPC
50implementation incorporating memory management units (MMUs) and
51instruction/data caches. It has a real-time clock and a communications
52processor module that includes serial communication controllers, serial
53management controllers, a serial peripheral interface (SPI) channel, and an
54Interprocessor-Integrated Controller (I2C) channel for data exchanges
55between the MPC821 and other ICs with I2C capability. The MPC821’s
56memory controller supports all available types of memory. Its PCMCIA
57controller supports up to two PCMCIA devices (one socket is provided on
58the MBX). The MPC821 also incorporates an LCD controller for display
     59capability.
