The PDF generated documents is in a 2 column format.

I suspect the Sphinx version 1.4.8 on sync.rtems.org is too old. I back ported some style fixes for later versions to the 4.11 and I am wondering if this is a problem.

I think the version checked is updated and virtualenv needs to be used to build a release.

I can confirm this is the issue. The 4.11-branch build also done in sync uses a virtualenv. You can review the build on docs.rtems.org for example ​https://docs.rtems.org/branches/4.11/c-user.pdf.

I will update the release scripts to use a virtualenv.

I will use the latest release scripts for the 4.11 build and this has a more recent sphinx. There is nothing in the doc source to fix.
